POST 36/170: Security Officer (X4 Posts)

Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services

Centre: Lentegeur Hospital
Salary: R163 680 per annum

Requirements:

• Minimum educational qualification: General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) / Grade 9 (Std 7)
• Registration: Must be registered as a Security Officer Grade C or higher with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA)
• Experience: Relevant experience as a Security Officer, preferably in a psychiatric environment

Inherent Requirements of the Job:

• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
• Must be able to rotate between units as required
• Prepared to perform delegated duties in all hospital units

Competencies (Knowledge/Skills):

• Genuine interest in working in psychiatric and forensic units
• Strong sense of responsibility and ability to work independently in difficult situations
• Knowledge of management of aggression and violence
• Self-discipline, motivation, and ability to work under pressure
• Excellent listening, report writing, conflict handling, and teamwork skills

Duties (Key Performance Areas):

• Perform access and egress control and escort patients on/off hospital premises
• Assist staff in handling aggressive or violent patients
• Provide supportive security services to prevent injuries, abscondments, litigation, and other incidents
• Operate and monitor surveillance cameras to detect unlawful or suspicious activities
• Record and report all incidents, patient movements, and security-related activities
• Support the Operational Manager in delivering effective and safe hospital operations
