Flight Dispatcher Learnership Skills Program Expanded Content
This program is a unique opportunity to gain tuition and work experience for the flight dispatcher qualification, NDip Flight Dispatcher NQF 5.
The program provides unemployed youth with skills that are considered rare in the aviation industry.
Participants who successfully complete the program can seek employment in aviation as a flight dispatcher or in other operational control disciplines.
ADVANTAGES OF THE PROGRAM
The program will provide you with the following benefits:
- You will earn a flight dispatch rating based on unit standards based on Rating ID 59256
- You will gain an understanding of the world of aviation.
- You will acquire knowledge, skills and abilities in the functions and work processes related to flight dispatch.
- The skills program may open the door to potential future career opportunities within SAA (please note this is not guaranteed)
WHERE WILL MY PARTICIPATION IN THE FLIGHT CONTROLLER SKILLS PROGRAM TAKE ME?
You will receive formal lessons and assessments in the following areas:
- IATA OCC Phase 1 Course
- Human factors in aviation
- ICAO Flight Dispatcher Course
- Initial Manual Weight and Balance – SAA Non-System Passenger Aircraft
- Class 10 Dangerous Goods Regulations
- Applicable business integration program
- Air Zone Rules and Regulations Course
- Security awareness
- Aircraft systems course for non-technical personnel
- On-the-job experience will include the Flight Dispatch Induction Program and unique operational experiential learning opportunities.
WHO ARE THEY LOOKING FOR?
To apply for our Flight Dispatcher Learnership Skills Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Be successful in English at the 12th grade level (or equivalent)
- Interpersonal, analytical and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills in English.
- High-level digital skills
- You must have good planning and organization skills.
- Safety oriented
- You must be culturally sensitive
- You must have the ability to work under pressure.
- No negative results in SAA pre-employment checks (criminal, credit and rating checks)
- Must be in good medical shape
Applicants who have speech problems, visual perception problems, and problem colors may not be able to participate in this program.
Please note that our Youth Development Program aims to provide selected applicants with lessons and hands-on exposure for a limited period of time. Although the program may open the door to new jobs within SAA, this is not guaranteed.

Applicants can be expected to undergo pre-employment evaluations and qualification and criminal checks.
